After nearly seven years, Powderhouse Studios is finally in the final stage of its design and approval (🤞) process: School Committee authorization! This page provides some information about that process, including upcoming opportunities to get involved. If you'd like to stay in the loop, subscribe to our mailing list or follow us on Facebook and twitter.
Somerville Public Schools is also maintaining a page providing information on Powderhouse’s proposal and progress here. Powderhouse has also made translations of that page in Español, Português, Kreyòl Ayisyen available.
Between now and 4 March 2019 (when the Somerville School Committee will vote on the Powderhouse Studios proposal), the Powderhouse team and Somerville School Committee are very interested in hearing community members’ questions, concerns, and ideas.
🎉 Supporting Powderhouse's approval
We sent the email below to those on our mailing list in early 2019. It has some information about ways to get involved and support Powderhouse!
If you'd like to voice your support to the Somerville School Committee, please send a letter of support to the committee. We've pulled together these talking points if you'd like any help pulling something together, and you can find everyone's contact information in one place here.
Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions!
Next steps for Powderhouse Studios (and a chance to help)!
We’ve got some exciting news about Powderhouse Studios, and we wanted to tell you about it…and we hope you’ll get involved!
In January 2019, the Somerville Teachers’ Association approved Powderhouse Studios’ union contract, and we’ve finally moved into the last phase of the approval process, including public comment and deliberation leading to a School Committee vote on March 4th.
Until then, the Powderhouse team and Somerville School Committee want to hear from all corners of the Somerville community. So far, there hasn’t been much of a way to formally express support and move the proposal forward, but now is the time your voice can really count.
If you’d like to see Powderhouse Studios happen in Somerville (and/or learn more about its design), there are three things you can do:
Attend a public hearing or another School Committee meeting and sign up to make a public comment in support of the school (scroll down a bit for dates here).
We feel so privileged and excited to have made it this far, with so much support from neighbors, colleagues, and friends.
Please share this message with anyone you think might like to get involved, and reach out with any ideas you have about how we can share this information far and wide.
If you have any questions, please let me know and we’d be happy to chat! — And we’d love to know if you are planning to attend any of the events listed above, so please let me know by replying to this email!
